While at Sugar Hill, my research will focus on a new body of work using the aesthetics of waiting rooms in children’s hospitals, which exist as a site for both nostalgia and trauma. I thought it was a bit much but I guess that everyone is taking safety precautions. I have to note as a single male coming into a children's museum they will make you sign in and wear a name badge. The whole museum can be seen in about an hour and there are all sorts of activities for kids and their families. The artwork of Melvin Van Pebbles and Bony Ramirez was just a sampling of their works but the most interactive and bold so that a child might enjoy them and react to them. The museum broke ground in 2012 and was originally slated to be called the Faith Ringgold Childrens Museum of Art & Storytelling in honor of the artist Faith. The exhibitions which are in the smaller galleries have a limited amount of artwork and it makes it a lot easier to visit these special exhibitions then it would in one of the bigger museums. It is a very interesting museum as there are things to do for both children and adults. The museum had been closed for two and a half years during COVID and only has limited hours.
